- Sophocles (495-406 BC): Sophocles, whose name is first remembered among the most important writers of Greek tragedy, has a special place with his handling of the subjects and his mastery of portraying the characters in the play. He improved his theater technique and gave importance to dialogues, decor and costume. In his tragedies, a neat internal structure that was not seen in the writers of the period is seen. He always prioritizes the problem of fate in his works. He received more than twenty awards in the competitions he participated in. Of the works of Sophocles, who wrote one hundred and twenty-three tragedies, only Aias, Antigone, King Oedipus, Elektra, Women of Trachis, Philoctetes and Oedipus have survived to the present day in Colonos.Bedrettin Tuncel (1910-1980): He served as a member of the Translation Office founded by Hasan Ali Yücel. He worked as a lecturer in the Department of French Language and Literature at Ankara University DTCF. He taught Theater History at Ankara State Conservatory. He served as the Chairman of the UNESCO National Committee for many years. He served as Minister of National Education for a while. He wrote books on literature and theater history and published research and studies. He translated the works of many important writers such as Bedrettin Tuncel, Moliere, Musset and Camus into Turkish. Show more
